BOA Stage & Screen

THE ACADEMY EQUIPS STUDENTS WITH THE SKILLS, CONFIDENCE AND KNOWLEDGE TO THRIVE IN COMPETITIVE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES.

BOA Stage and Screen Production Academy is a specialist sixth form college in Birmingham, offering a unique and inspiring pathway for young people who want to build a career in the creative industries. As part of the BOA Group, the academy provides a free, technical and vocational education for students aged 16 – 19 who are passionate about working in film, television, theatre and live events. What sets BOA Stage and Screen apart is its strong focus on industry. Students don’t just learn in the classroom – they gain hands-on experience that mirrors the real world of production.

The curriculum is designed alongside industry professionals, ensuring students develop the practical skills, confidence and knowledge needed to succeed in highly competitive creative sectors. At Level 3, students can choose from a range of BTEC courses tailored to different creative interests. These include Film & TV, Hair & Make Up for Theatre, Film & TV, Set, Props and Costume, Writing, Directing & Screen Craft, and Lighting & Sound for Live Performance. Each course offers a blend of technical training and creative exploration, helping students discover their strengths while building a professional portfolio.

For those looking to take their training further, the academy also offers Level 4 Professional Diploma courses. These advanced programmes include Acting, Theatre Making, Film Making, and Hair, Make Up & Special Effects. Designed to bridge the gap between education and industry, these courses provide intensive, career-focused training that prepares students for higher education, apprenticeships or direct entry into the creative workforce.

A key highlight of studying at BOA Stage and Screen is access to prestigious work placements. Students have gained invaluable experience with leading organisations such as PRG UK, Birmingham Royal Ballet and the Royal Shakespeare Company. This year, students even had the opportunity to work on the BRIT Awards, gaining first-hand insight into one of the UK’s biggest live events.

Student achievement at the academy is consistently outstanding. In September 2025, BOA Stage and Screen celebrated a 100% pass rate in BTEC Level 3 qualifications, with 96% of students achieving high grades equivalent to three A-levels at A to A* standard. Impressively, 79% of students attained the highest possible grades, demonstrating both dedication and the strength of the academy’s teaching. Level 4 students have also achieved exceptional success. Every student passed their course, with 77% achieving a Distinction or Merit. Nearly half of the cohort were awarded a Distinction, the highest possible grade, reflecting the academy’s commitment to excellence and progression.

The success of BOA Stage and Screen students continues beyond the classroom. Alumni have gone on to work with major organisations including the BBC, the Premier League, and PRG, while others have progressed into apprenticeships, designed lighting for West End productions, and even appeared on popular television shows such as EastEnders. With its industry-led approach, outstanding results and strong progression routes, BOA Stage and Screen Production Academy is helping to shape the next generation of creative talent – right here in Birmingham.
