Students in Wrekin College’s Sixth Form enjoy a university-style experience with a dedicated Business School, Music School and expansive careers and networking opportunities as part of its post-16 offering. The school has expanded its future pathways provision with a packed calendar of careers talks and workshops across dozens of sectors and job titles. Members of Wrekin Sixth also help host the thriving Wrekin Business Breakfast networking group.

The school led the way in recognising the need for more emphasis on real-life employability skills when it opened its Business School in 2017. Bringing together the classroom and workplace, it boasts a boardroom, lecture theatre and breakout spaces for independent learning. Senior staff have also developed strategic structures for assessing and reporting progress, working in tandem with pupils and their parents to set ambitious targets for exam results.

It has seen a significant return, with 86 per cent of pupils achieving their first-choice university place last year. In recent years, a number of pupils have also secured coveted and highly competitive apprenticeships or sponsorships with global names, including Deloitte, PwC and, this year, Cunard. This year, two students have also received prestigious offers from the University of Oxford.

Wrekin Sixth also has an extensive extra-curricular programme, with initiatives including the EPQ, DofE assessor status and an exchange programme with some of the world’s best schools.

Joint Acting Headmasters Simon Platford MBE and Ben Smith said they were rightly proud of the myriad of opportunities offered at Sixth Form. “At Wrekin, we put in the time and work to develop students’ confidence and then continue to build on it by ensuring the sixth form offers what each student needs to achieve their goals.”
